In August 2003, the Department issued to key stakeholders including representative bodies within the taxi industry  a discussion paper, setting out initial draft proposals for changes to taxi regulation. The purpose of the paper was to seek comments that would help inform proposals to be published in a public consultation document on the reform of taxi regulation in Northern Ireland

In March 2005, and having regard to responses to the initial draft proposals contained in the August 2003 Discussion Paper, the Department published for public consultation proposals for changes to taxi regulation.

Responses to these proposals will be taken into account in finalising the Department's proposals for reform of taxi regulation in Northen Ireland.
