Road Safety Steering Group
This committee is chaired by the DOE Deputy Secretary responsible for Road Safety and has a membership consisting of: - DOE (Deputy Secretary & RSD Director), DRD Roads Service (Chief Executive & Head of Transportation Unit), PSNI (Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for road policing & Head of Road Policing Development Branch)
The Terms of reference for the RSSG are: -
1.The Road Safety Steering Group will act as the high level decision group involving the top management in each of the three main organisations (DOE, DRD and PSNI) responsible for delivery of the measures in the Road Safety Strategy to 2012.
2.The Steering Group’s main role is to: -
(i)oversee the work of the Road Safety Review Group and to monitor progress towards the delivery of the targets and objectives set out in the Road Safety Strategy and to consider new initiatives;
(ii)seek to ensure that the appropriate resources are in place to achieve the targets set out in the Road Safety Strategy;
(iii)seek to identify, and arrange through the RSRG, innovative actions to help reduce road traffic casualties, especially KSI’s;
(iv)consider the Annual Report produced by the RSRG for approval by the Minister; and
(v)in 2005, at the end of the first three-year period of the strategy, oversee the review by the RSRG of the progress made on delivering the measures highlighted in the strategy, assess their effectiveness and report to the Minister.
3.The Steering Group Opens new Windowwill report to the appropriate Minister and will normally meet at least twice a year (timing to be determined) to review progress on achieving the targets and measures contained in the Road Safety Strategy. Opens new Window Ad hoc meetings of the Steering Group may be convened to deal with acute issues as required.
