The Northern Ireland Road Safety Monitor 2006

This is the latest in a series of research on attitudes, behaviour and awareness of road safety issues in Northern Ireland. It is commissioned by the Department of the Environment and has been carried out since 1995. The following is a sample of public attitude towards drinking and driving revealed in the latest findings:
  • 40% of respondents think it is acceptable to drive after one drink.
  • 28% of motorists who drink said they would drive after one drink.
Of motorists who drink, 37% said they could not drink any alcohol without it affecting their driving. Male motorists were more likely than female motorists to claim that higher levels of consumption would not affect their driving. (13% of males compared to 6% of females)
The 'Northern Ireland Road Safety Monitor 2006 Report' represents the findings of the 2006 Road Safety Monitor, which was collected as part of the Northern Ireland Omnibus Survey in May 2006 and includes questions on speeding , drinking and driving, pedestrian safety and driver fatigue.
