Motorcycles

The Department of the Environment introduced a register of Approved Motorcycle Instructors in the interests of road safety and to maintain and improve the standard of motorcycle instruction available to the public in Northern Ireland. This register also ensures that the public can rely upon an acceptable minimum standard of tuition from registered Approved Motorcycle Instructors. It is administered by the Department’s Road Safety Branch under the provisions of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995.
The current process to obtain the DOE Approved Motorcycle Instructors qualification is under review and is the subject of a consultation document.  The consultation proposals can be viewed at the link below;

TO BE NOTED:

It should be noted that there is no legal requirement, for anyone who wishes to charge (either money or monies worth) for giving instruction on riding a motorcycle, to be an Approved Motorcycle Instructor.
