Primary Legislation

Legislation in Northern Ireland takes two main forms – primary and subordinate.

The Road Safety Primary Legislation programme is prioritised in accordance with policy and Ministerial requirements and in conjunction with the Office of the Legislative Counsel. Primary Bills/ Orders are guided through a series of stages in the NI Assembly/ Westminster legislative process.

All Northern Ireland primary legislation published on this website is amended up to 31 December 2004. Users should, however, verify for themselves whether legislation is in force or whether it has been amended or repealed by subsequent legislation.
