Speed is the single biggest killer on Northern Ireland’s roads.
It accounts for one in four of all Road Deaths.
If a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle travelling at 20mph there is a 5% chance of being killed but 95% survive.
If a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle travelling at 30mph there is a 50% chance of being killed.
If a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle travelling at 40mph nearly all are killed.
If you are a passenger in a vehicle travelling at 30mph and not wearing a seatbelt your body weight increases by 30 times.
