What We Offer:
The main aim is to contribute to a reduction in the numbers of those killed or seriously injured (KSI’s) on Northern Irelands roads, by increasing the road safety knowledge, skills and understanding of road users through education, training and publicity.
We aim to meet these targets through the following:
Primary Education

Description |
PCPST
(Practical Child Pedestrian Safety Training) |
Early child pedestrian training targeting years P3, P4 and P5, to raise their awareness of the road environment, delivered by teachers and supported by Road Safety Education Officers (RSEO's). |
CPS
(Cycling Proficiency Scheme) |
Early education and training of child cyclists to encourage the right attitude and behaviour in order to help them develop knowledge of their own vulnerability as road users. |
TAC
(Teaching Aid Calendar) |
A free road safety teaching aid supplied to every classroom in every school, allowing important road safety messages to be highlighted to children on a weekly basis. |
| Walking Bus |
A voluntary pedestrian scheme where parents of the children assist them with their daily walk to and from school on a planned, risk assessed route. |
TIE
(Theatre In Education) |
Theatre companies are booked to perform to both primary and post primary school audiences, in order to educate young people about important road safety messages. |
Teaching Resources
(Requisition) |
Each school is supplied with relevant teaching resources that can be linked to the curriculum and assist teachers in promoting road safety in the classroom. |
Post Primary Education

| Driver Training Scheme |
This scheme has been designed to provide young people with a proper attitude towards driving as well as a higher degree of skill, through 6 hours of practical driving and 6 hours as an observer, subsidised by the Department Of the Environment (DOE). |

| Road Traffic Studies |
The Department Of the Environment Road Safety Education Officer Service supports schools in a unique concept within the UK by offering post-primary schools road traffic studies.
It can be taught as a separate timetabled subject or as a cross-curricular activity, and has been designed to prepare students to become more informed about road safety and be more responsible as road users. |
| GCSE Motor Vehicle & Road User Studies (MVRUS) |
This GCSE subject has been designed to teach students to be more responsible as road users. It consists of both internal and external assessment components, one of which involves practical riding activities. |
| Teaching Resources (Requisition) |
Each school is supplied with relevant teaching resources that will assist teachers in promoting road safety as part of the school curriculum. |
