Road Safety Division

The Road Safety Division (R S D) is a Division within the Department of the Environment. It is responsible for promoting road safety, training and educating road users, producing the Highway Code, producing policy and legislation, and monitoring the performance of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Northern Ireland (D V L N I) and Driver and Vehicle Testing Agency (D V T A).
RSD is not responsible for the management and maintainence of Northern Ireland's roads.  This function is carried out by Roads Service Opens new Window an executive agency within the Department of Regional Development.

Divisional Structure

There are four Branches within the Division each headed by a Grade 7. The four branches are Road Safety Branch, Driver Vehicle & Operator Policy Branch, Road Transport Regulation Review Branch, and Road Transport Legislation Branch.
